This is not Mr. Bobo

Cat2My new favorite web site features photos from people who answer "yes" to the question, "Do you like to put things on your cat?"

Huh, like anyone can honestly answer "no" to that question!

Check it out.

Hi Mary,

Don't know if you remember us since we last saw you and Jimmy at a pre-Christmas party at Stephanie and Rob's house in Springfield (VA). We are nearly half century old friends of the two Catherines starting when we all served together in the Foreign Service in Rio de Janeiro.

Incidentally, for you addressing the two Catherines at times must be confusing. For us no such problem. Jimmy's mom has always been, and remains today, Caline. I think that name comes from what her parents called her when she was a child.

She was kind enough to send us a copy of the "Wiener" and I have two things to report aside from enjoying it throughout. The first is that I read it over a period of three weeks and never had to worry about what I last read because the essays are all self-contained. All books read by seniors should be like that because short term memory is often a ""thought devoutly to be wished". Secondly I read part of "Wiener" while waiting in a doctor's office where expressions among patients run from anxiety to dismay. One of the essays -- I think it was either the one on colonoscopy or estate planning ("They are Republicans!")-- led me to burst out laughing. Most of the waiting patients probably thought I was at the end of my rope.

Also read your more recent columns on "The Secret O' Life" and "Backwoods Vacation". So I/we are now addicted and, if the blog does its thing, will look forward to reading your weekly output.

Best to Jimmy and yourself and hope we will see you when you next come east.

Beverly and Al(vin)Cohen
